The End? …Not on YOUR Life
On Sunday May 5th, we finished our two year look at the Gospel of John. It has been quite a fun-filled, exciting and challenging journey. When I started thinking about preaching and teaching this particular book, it looked like it would take over two years, and that seemed like that would be a very long time. However, as I look back, it feels like we just started yesterday. We wanted to be faithful to the task and to the text, and I believe we were. It is often said of John's Gospel that you can wade into it like a child, running around splashing in the shallows or dive deep into it like an elephant exploring its depths. Throughout the two years of our study we did both as we explored and splashed around in what this Gospel, this "Good News," from John's perspective might mean for us and for our world. I love the way that John concludes his Gospel, "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written." (John 21:25 NIV) His writing is not the complete works of Jesus but just a minute fraction of all the things He did and said. And, what is more, He is still doing great and marvelous things in and through the lives of His followers and His church. In fact, the story goes on, and we are not only a part of it, but, by the continuing transforma¬tional presence d the Holy Spirit, It becomes more and more a part of us. By His transforming work, we are becoming. More like Him, modeling out the "Good News" and taking the "Good News" of who Jesus is and what he has done into the world each and every day. So I invite you to keep remembering, telling and living the "Truth" of this Gospel. Watch it continue to transform not only your life, but also the lives of those around you. We have only just begun. You think about that ...Amen. I am proud to be your pastor, fellow minister, and friend, Jerry |
